Fun with a Pumpkin Seed!

In the spring when we planted our garden we had our daughter Elizabeth write her name on a pumpkin seed.
We told her when it grew into a pumpkin it would have her name on it.  When the pumpkins were ready dad went and carved her name on TWO pumpkins. It was fun to take her to the garden to see the pumpkins with her name on it, but you can't get much past a six year old. She had a lot of questions about how she got two pumpkins with her name on it when she only wrote her name on one seed.  I had to go with the explanation that one seed can grow more than one pumpkin. I am not quite sure she can reason with this concept, but it was still fun to do and it got her interested in the garden this year.

Trip to the Detroit Zoo

A few weekends ago my husband took our daughter to the Detroit Zoo while mom stayed home and cleaned.  They have made this trip for the last few years together and I'm not sure who enjoys it more, my daughter or husband.  We are fortunate to have such a great zoo close enough to our home to make a day trip out of it.  Here are a few photos they took before dropping and breaking my camera!

Annual trip to Beaverton for Roy's Gas Station Party & Visit to Maxwell's Pumpkin Farm

What beautiful fall weather we have had here in Michigan (so far!).  This weekend was our annual trip to Beaverton for my parents Gas Station Party.  My father some years ago built a replica of an old time Phillips 66 Gas Station.  The guys pressed apples to make fresh cider and my dad made fresh doughnuts.  Of course there was a million other things to eat as usual. As an added bonus we got to watch my sister in law torture my three nephews with picture taking prior to the homecoming dance.  Thanks mom and dad for a great fall tradition!  While in my hometown of Beaverton we were also able to visit Maxwell's Pumpkin Farm which has been around as long as I can remember.  Always a great place to stop and visit!

Meet the newest member of the family.....Clover!

My daughter went to the Armada stock yards with her father on Sunday.  They both promised as they left the house in the morning that they were not getting a bunny.  They came home with a bunny.  The bunny is just adorable and I am so happy to add her to our family.  Our puppy was quite intrigued, he first licked the bunny's face, then he pointed......so bunny and puppy will need to stay separated!  So far Elizabeth has done a good job taking care of Clover.

Elizabeth's First Day of 1st Grade!

The first day of school went well.  My daughter and I had a lot of fun making her teacher gift.  We made a card that said "Having you for a teacher will be more fun than a barrel of monkeys!"  We bought the barrel of monkeys game, added root beer barrel candies, Curious George books, scratch and sniff banana stickers, banana taffy, chocolate covered banana chips and added hershey's bars that we labeled monkey bars.  I look forward to watching my daughter grow this year!

Sanilac County 4-H Fair

First of all, I have the best daycare lady in the world!  She took my daughter and two other girls to the Sanilac County 4-H Fair yesterday afternoon.  After a long work day my husband and I met them at the Fair.  As always, Sanilac County did not disappoint! There is something for everyone at the 4-H Fair. Always my daughters favorite, the barn with the baby animals.  What a great experience for kids of all ages! It was impossible to see everything, but we went through several of the animal barns.  What amazing youngsters that work so hard with their animals in 4-H.  We missed the craft barn which was a disappoint to me, but seeing the smiles on the kids faces enjoying the rides made it all better.  Fun was had by all, and the elephant ears are still my favorite!  We are talking about getting a bunny, so maybe next year we will be participating!

"That's what I'm talking about!"
